“Grace When We Fall”
Author: Erech Pierson
Scripture: Proverbs 24:16 & Lamentations 3:22-23
“God’s Gonna Get Ya For That?” Did you ever sing that chorus as a kid maybe in Sunday School or Bible School, or even AWANA? (Now I am really showing my age!) The thought behind the song had a Biblical basis, there is no place to run and hide, God can see you anywhere, but the theology behind the words could not be more contrary to the Biblical view God has for his children. Romans 3:23 is clear that we “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. And while there are different consequences for different sins, and repentance does not make all those go away, we are assured of the love the Father has for us, welcoming us to lean back into His loving arms, time and time again.
Proverbs 24:16 tells us that even though we (children of God) fall 7 times, we rise again.
Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us that God’s compassions never fail and that they are new every morning, so great is His faithfulness.
Maybe it is time we sing a new song. “I’m not afraid, to show You my weakness. My failures and flaws, Lord, you’ve seen them all and You still call me friend!” May we understand today, that God is not waiting for the next time we screw up! God is actively working on our behalf through the Spirit; He is FOR us, not against us! God is your biggest cheerleader, cheering you on despite your flaws and weakness, and He is there ready to wrap His arms around you in love and forgiveness when you fall!
Prayer
Father God, thank you for your mercy which is new every morning. Thank you for amazing grace. Thank you that you are the same gracious, loving God when we fall short, just as when we are in the middle of Your will. Thank you for never leaving us or forsaking us, and for still calling me friend!! Amen!
