"Peace Doesn’t Mean No Storm"
Scripture: John 16:33 & Isaiah 26:3
We often assume that peace means everything is calm. No bad news. No tension. No uncertainty. No storm. But Jesus tells us something very different.
In John 16:33, He says, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Notice what He does not say. He does not promise the absence of trouble. He promises His presence in the middle of it. Peace, in the Kingdom of God, is not the absence of storms it is the presence of Christ.
Isaiah writes, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah 26:3).
Perfect peace doesn’t come from perfect circumstances. It comes from a fixed focus. Think about that.
If our peace depends on:
The economy
Our health
Our relationships
Our schedule
Our plans working out
Then our peace will constantly rise and fall.
But if our peace is rooted in the unchanging character of God, it remains steady even when everything else shifts. Lent reminds us that Jesus walked straight toward the storm of the cross. He knew suffering was coming. He knew betrayal was coming. He knew pain was coming. And yet He walked in peace.
Why? Because His confidence was not in comfort it was in the Father. Maybe today your sea feels rough. Maybe the winds are loud. Maybe you’re praying for the storm to stop. Keep praying. But also remember: Peace may not come by removing the storm. It may come by remembering Who is in the boat with you. Lent is not a season where life suddenly becomes easier. It is a season where we practice fixing our minds on God. And when we do, something steady grows inside of us. Not panic. Not despair. Peace.
Prayer
Father, Thank You that peace is not fragile or dependent on my circumstances. Thank You that You do not promise a storm-free life, but You do promise Your presence. Fix my thoughts on You today. When anxiety rises, remind me that You have overcome the world. Help me trust You in the middle of whatever I am facing. Grow in me a peace that comes from knowing You are near. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
