"Grief Doesn't Mean Weak Faith"
Author: Holly Urquhart
Scripture: John 11:33 & Romans 12:15
Mourning is not a lack of trust. Martha demonstrated this, when faced with her brother’s death. Martha brought her grief and disappointment to Jesus, saying” Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” But then she had faith by saying “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
Faith, emerging from grief, is not weakness; we can feel that grief deeply. Martha didn’t need to resolve her pain before trusting in Jesus. Sometimes I think I forget that it is OK to get mad and grieve. We don’t always have to be strong. Ignoring sadness is not what God wants. Getting mad and angry is OK; it doesn’t mean you are destroying your faith. It actually strengthens your faith. Thankfully, we have a redeeming God who loves and understands us.
Prayer
Lord-We come before you in awe, acknowledging your mercy and grace. You are the Redeemer, the One who lifts us from the depths of despair and restores us to new life. You forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. You bring our sorrow to joy and our darkness to light. Help us to walk into the light and next to you. May our lives be a testimony to you. Let us find healing in you. In your name, we pray, Amen.
