"God Is Still Present"

Author: Holly Urquhart

Scripture: Psalm 34:19 & Isaiah 41:10

God stays close, and His comforting presence is with us during times of sorrow. How do we know when we face hardships and loss that we are not alone? When Rob’s mother passed away this last year, I saw God very present through our church family. People showed up to pray with us, bring food, and even help clean my house.  We were definitely surrounded by love. Even though this happened, God is with you; He will comfort you.

Psalm 23 says, when we face hardships and loss, we are not alone. The days will come and go, but you are not alone. As we accept the reality of grief and loss and focus on the one who is greater, God’s presence is with you; His rod and staff will comfort you.  You may feel isolated and alone; you may think no one cares, and perhaps you want to yell at God. Job in the Bible would understand. He questioned God about where he was and why he didn’t let him die.  God hadn’t left him-he didn’t relieve him of his pain, but he was there all the time. Sometimes, it’s hard to see God being there with us the whole time.

Prayer

Dear King of the Universe, Help me to see clearly that you were and still are all powerful and in control.  Help me to believe you will never leave me. Even when I am grieving, assure me of your presence and your blessing. Let me have the confidence of this Psalm that you are with me and your rod and staff will comfort me.  Praise you and lead me through this time of grief.  You are the almighty and Loving God- Amen.
