"Walking Forward in Grace"
Author: Ray Standerwick
Scripture: Psalm 32:8 & Micah 6:8
Psalm 32:8 "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you."
Micah 6:8 "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
In Psalm 32:8, God states that He will instruct us and teach us in the way we should go. Verse 9 follows with a warning to not be stubborn like a mule that has no understanding! How easy it is to be stubborn and proud thinking that we know what is best for us and our families!
Micah 6:8 is a verse where God provides this instruction on the way we should go. Three things that God requires of us are listed. They are 1) to act justly 2) to love mercy and 3} to walk humbly with our God. Pastor Rick Warren claims that throughout the Bible, God makes more promises about humility than anything else except generosity.
Pride is the opposite of humility, and is the cause of so many of the problems in our lives, especially in our relationships. Think about it. Our humility is tested every day. Psalm 32:8 ends with “I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” God’s loving eye is following us, guiding our thoughts and relationships as we commit to being sensitive to yield to His spirit. And He is committed to leading us forward as it is said in Philippians 2:13 by “working in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose”.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for leaving us your desires for us as they are spelled out in the Bible. Thank you for being committed to your family, for showing us your grace 24/7. Open our hearts to view our experiences with your insight, to really experience your love so that we can love as you have loved us. Amen.
