"God’s Grace Meets Us in Weakness"
Author Phyllis German
Scripture: Matthew 26:39 & 2 Corinthians 12:9
I remember a time when my back went out and I needed help getting out of bed and even walking. I didn’t have the physical strength to do anything but pray. Those prayers were basically, “Help me, Lord!” Jesus knew what it was like to feel weak, too.
Matthew 26:39 says, “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will’ but as you will.”
In Hebrews 4:15-16 we can take comfort that Jesus understands our weaknesses and trials because he was tempted and tested in every way we are. I will admit that those verses did not come to my mind back then, but friends and family helped me through that emotional time. Just like Holly said this morning in her devotion, church friends brought meals, cleaned my house and took me to the chiropractor. I recovered from my weakness and returned to my daily responsibilities.
However; sometimes God’s grace (God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense) is what we might experience.
2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
So, Friends, share your weakness and give God the glory for His faithfulness and staying by your side all your days!
Prayer
Thank you, Father for never leaving or forsaking us. Help us in our weaknesses to trust in your Word and remember your grace is sufficient. Help us be your hands and feet to those in need. Amen
