"Identity Over Appetite"
Scripture: Matthew 4:3-4 & Romans 8:1
Both of these passages share a very powerful theme-our identity and security are grounded in God’s word-not in temptation, performance, or condemnation.
In Matthew, Satan tempts Jesus to "prove" Himself. Can you just imagine this conversation!? Satan says,
"If you really are who you say you are, turn these rocks into bread." Jesus’ response was-I already know who I am. The Son of God. I don’t need to prove it. I AM the Bread of Life.
In Romans, Paul tells us there is no condemnation for those in Christ. Our position with God isn’t earned by resisting every temptation perfectly; it is secured by Christ.
These passages show us that temptation targets who we are, but God’s word anchors who we are. Just like Jesus stands firm in His identity through scripture, we believers stand secure in Christ through Grace.
Prayer
Jesus-thank you for being my savior, for being the Savior of the World. When temptation comes my way, remind me who I am in you. Help me pause before I act. Help me listen for your whisper instead of my own impulses. Strengthen my mind and guard my heart. Give me the courage and wisdom to choose obedience, even when it’s hard. Thank you for your patience with me. In Jesus name, AMEN.
