40 Days of Prayer - Day 16

God’s Power to Restore & Heal

Author: Jan Abla

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up! Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and stream in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Joel 2:32

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong.” I Peter 5:10

The praise song this Psalmist sings is as much for us in the twenty-first century as it was for him. You see, praise focuses on God and takes our minds off our pain or problems. Praise will lift our mind from the earthly to the heavenly. Listen carefully, can’t you hear the song as voices are lifted.

Praise the Lord

How good it is to sing praises to our God

How fitting to praise him

I will praise the Lord all my life

I will praise my God as long as I live.

We serve a God who even determines the number of the stars; whose understanding knows no limit; he binds up the wounds of the brokenhearted. There will be times when our hearts are broken. Those we love die; friends we love die; friends and even family betray or disappoint; jobs are terminated and on and on. Jesus tells us, “In this world you will have trouble. But, take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33)

The trust we place in God when there are broken hearts and pain is active. It is not a positive attitude. This life of trust is a lifestyle of absolute trust in our Heavenly Father who is the “God of all grace who called you to His eternal glory in Christ after you have suffered.”

Prayer:

Our Father, when our hearts are broken, you give us refuge and strength, you bind our wounds and heal our broken hearts. Thank you for your grace and love. Amen.
