40 Days of Prayer - Day 6
God’s Timing is Perfect
Author: Pastor Christen Piatt
Scripture Reference:
Ecclesiastes 3:11 - "Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end."
Galatians 6:9 - "So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up."
Reflection:
God’s timing is a concept that can be challenging for us to grasp. We live in a world where instant gratification is often the norm, where waiting for anything feels difficult. Yet, throughout the Scriptures, we are reminded that God's timing is always perfect—more so than anything we could plan or expect on our own.
In Ecclesiastes 3:11, Solomon tells us that “God has made everything beautiful for its own time.” This verse speaks to the divine order in which everything unfolds. While we may not always understand the reasons behind certain events or seasons of life, we are assured that God’s timing is both purposeful and beautiful. There’s a rhythm to life that God is orchestrating, even when we feel like we are in the waiting room of our prayers.
I know there have been times in my life when I felt alone, I would even say that I felt abandoned, and those are not uncommon feelings in the waiting. The silence from God during those seasons can feel deafening, and the distance between us and the answers we long for can seem vast. But the Bible reminds us that we are never truly abandoned. Though it may feel like we are waiting in vain, we are not alone—God is with us, even when we can't see or feel Him. And in those moments, the feelings of abandonment can often be a sign that God is calling us to a deeper level of trust.
But we can’t forget that we need to also be obedient to God, even when it doesn’t make sense. Trusting God’s timing doesn’t mean we can sit idly by; it means continuing to walk in obedience, doing the right thing, even when the end result isn’t clear. God’s timing might not always align with our own expectations, but we are called to follow His lead, trusting that He is faithful to His promises.
Our finite human perspective prevents us from seeing the full picture. As Ecclesiastes also mentions, “He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” We can’t always see how God is working behind the scenes, how He’s weaving everything together for our good. But we can trust that He is—His timing is beyond our understanding and yet always for our benefit.
Galatians 6:9 offers another crucial reminder: “At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” This verse calls us to be patient and persistent in doing good (being obedient to God's Word and Calling). There will be times when it feels like nothing is happening, when we wonder if we’re making a difference. But the promise is clear: if we don’t give up, at just the right time, we will see the fruit of our labor. The harvest is coming. God’s perfect timing guarantees it.
Application:
As you reflect on these verses today, consider the areas of your life where you’re waiting for God's timing to unfold. Are there dreams, desires, or prayers you’ve been holding onto for a long time? Do you find yourself wondering if it will ever come to fruition?
Remember that God's timing is always at work, even in the waiting. Trust that He has a plan, and in His perfect time, He will bring about everything He has promised. Don’t grow weary in doing good, for at the appointed time, you will reap what you have sown. Even in the moments when you feel abandoned or alone, stay obedient and faithful to Him. His timing is not only perfect—it is beautiful, and He is working all things together for your good.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that Your timing is always perfect. Even when I feel alone, abandoned, or forgotten in the waiting, help me to trust that You are always with me, working behind the scenes. Give me the strength to remain obedient and faithful, even when it doesn’t make sense. Teach me to trust that in Your perfect timing, You will bring about the blessings You have promised. Help me not to grow weary in doing good but to keep pressing forward, knowing that You are faithful. In Jesus' name, Amen.
