40 Days of Prayer - Day 7
Trust in God Even When You Don’t Understand
Author: Bethany Force
Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
Psalm 37:5 - "Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you."
Isaiah 26:3-4 "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock."
Recently I’ve been learning about covenants, both in a devotion I’m doing with a dear friend and in a fun conversation I was having with my dad. Yes, my dad and I have conversations about theology just for fun. That’s normal, right?
Anyway, did you know there are different kinds of covenants? I just learned this. Some are conditional or two-sided. In the Mosaic covenant (that’s with Moses), the Jews needed to keep the stipulations of the covenant in order to stay in the Promised Land. The other kind of covenant is an unconditional or one-sided covenant. The covenant God makes with Noah to never flood the world again is unconditional.
One of my favorite covenants is the covenant God makes with Abraham to make him into a great nation. There is debate about whether this covenant is one-sided or two-sided; regardless, what I find most interesting is God’s faithfulness. He follows through with his end of the deal. Sarai becomes Sarah and has a son in her old age. Abram becomes Abraham and becomes the father of a nation.
In our verses for today we’re told to “seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” And then in Psalms, “Trust him, and he will help you.” And again in Isaiah, God will provide perfect peace to those who… “Trust in the Lord always.”
I see a theme here… don’t you?
Although these verses aren’t conditional covenants–we don’t have to follow a set of rules in order to receive God’s grace, we are asked to do one thing. Trust Him. When we do that, God promises to show us which way to go, to help us, and to provide us peace. This isn’t always easy to do. I have just come through a season of struggling in the uncertainty. And like always, when I finally fully surrendered my future to God’s will, a path forward became extremely clear, and I felt supernatural peace.
So today, if you are feeling uncertain about your future or a decision you’re making; I challenge you to check-in with yourself. Are you fully surrendered to God? Are you ready to do whatever He asks of you? Once you fully trust Him, He will be faithful and will do as He promised. He was faithful to Abraham, and He will be faithful today.
Prayer:

Jesus, thank you for being El Shaddai, the God Almighty who is greater and more powerful than anything I am facing today. Help me to fully surrender to you. Forgive me for all the times I have failed to completely trust you. I need your peace. I need your guidance and help. I trust that even when I don’t understand, you are faithful. I love you Jesus. In your name I pray, amen.
