40 Days of Prayer - Day 8

God Works All Things For Good

Romans 8:28 - “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Genesis 50:20 - “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”

2 Corinthians 4:17 - “For our present troubles produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever.”

Joseph is one of the most important characters whose life we find described in the Old Testament. We see him coming from a godly family who taught the importance of following God but spoiled and indulged him as a favorite son. We see him as he faces the animosity and malice of his siblings and the eventual, complete rejection of his brothers by their plot to kill him. We see him facing slavery, the bars of prison, the neglect of promises and we see him eventually in the seat next to the throne of Egypt.

Through each period of ease, suffering, and honor in his life, God was working as a faithful, loving God - working for His good and perfect will on earth. This account is a confirmation of how God can work in the lives of those who follow Him.The apostle Paul, when writing to the Romans, must have had Joseph in mind when he declared, “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Yes, our present trouble produces for us a glory that vastly outweighs them (our troubles) and will last forever.

Prayer:  

Our Father, may we follow you closely knowing you will work for good the troubles andease that come to us. We trust you. Amen
